KAS19

KAS19 transforms an old farmhouse in Germany whose stone walls have outlived several generations of use. The project treats the existing masonry as a precious shell: its irregular openings, patched surfaces and traces of former functions are kept visible rather than smoothed over. Within this envelope a new timber structure is inserted, a clear, legible frame of beams and posts that carries the new floors and roof and remains independent from the historic walls.

The dialogue between the heavy, textured stone and the light, precise timber defines the character of every room. Large glazed openings are set behind the old walls, turning former barn doors into windows onto the garden, while the timber ceiling spreads a warm, even light over a generous open ground floor. Sections and an exploded axonometric reveal the logic of the intervention: a house within a house, where the past is not restored as an image but given a new life.
