HAV26

HAV26 is a rooftop conversion in Berlin that creates eight new dwellings and adds two elevators to an existing apartment building. The new roof, clad in zinc with a diamond pattern, integrates dormers and roof windows in a regular rhythm, continuing the tradition of the Berlin mansard roof in a contemporary way.

A new timber roof structure allows generous, bright apartments under the pitched roof. Lift towers, also clad in zinc, serve both the new and the existing floors, improving accessibility for the whole building. Roof terraces offer views over the rooftops of Berlin. The project shows how densification can improve an existing building while respecting its character.
